Hudson Reunion

Assalamualikum boys and girls,

Today was a semi-hectic day. First, work. Then after work I had to rush over to Nishani’s place for a Henry Hudson Sr. Public School Class of ‘00 Reunion. It wasn’t anything official but several people from our year were expected to make an appearance so I decided to do the same.

I got to Nishani’s at around 6:45ish and mingled for a while with my old and some even current friends. It’s really nice to see people from way back when again. Especially to see whether they’ve changed or not (some people changed… a lot!). This one girl that was there, I failed to even recognize and I felt like a total idiot when I finally figured out who she was. It was one helluva nostlagic event (if that makes sense). Reminscing about our good times (and bad) of grade 7 and grade 8 was needed.

At about 7:45ish, Fairy called me to pick her up from work as planned so I cut the partying short (real short) and said my bye’s and see-you-later’s and headed out. Picked up Fairy, came home, packed, daddy told me the plan for tomorrow and packed s’more. I was also informed that we’d be staying at yet another shady little motel. I’m scared. I wish we could stay at a real hotel but I guess it’ll be interesting, to say the least. Plus, even if I was stuck in a room with good company, a deck of cards and food, I’d be content enough. I get amused and entertained really easily. It takes a lot for me to be bored I think. =)

Anyways, that’s all for now. I better shower and hit the sack. Tomorrow, inshAllah, we’re meeting the others early in the morning so I better get some sleep or else I’ll look like a raccoon.

Life Returns

Assalamualaikum

One of the nasheeds that I really like (among the many) is Dawud Wharnsby Ali’s “Life Returns”. Here are the lyrics courtesy of Soundvision Canada:

The earth is hard,
Soil is cracked,
bleached and blistered.
Trees bend, withered and weary.
Ground gasps, dusty and dry.

Allah hears and the rain comes
wetting and washing the world,
Flushing and flooding the clay,
Spilling and splashing,
Life returns.

Allahu Akbar! (Allah is great!)

We are the cracked earth,
The thirsty, dirty spirit of man.
If we gasp, we will be heard.
Forgiveness falls like rain on our hands.

Allah hears and the rain comes
Wetting and washing the world,
Flushing and flooding the clay,
Spilling and splashing,
Life returns.

Allahu Akbar! (Allah is great!)

Everytime I hear this song/nasheed, it puts me at ease. It slows me down, it helps me breathe a little easier. It’s a beautiful reminder of what the Glorious Lord has promised us He can do. It’s a reminder to us that we have Him to turn to. When things look grim, uncertain, it’s Allah who remains luminous and bright. It also reminds me how Merciful our Lord really is and that He Comes to us with ease — but if only we would reach out to Him more frequently. A lesson for me before anyone else.

Something I was pondering about.

Bob’s Cottage

Assalamualaikum kiddos,

Brace yourself people, this is going to be a long and drawn out post.

As I mentioned in a previous post, yesterday was our day out. We went to Bob’s Cottage. (For the record, Bob is a cool dude. He let a whole bunch of loud and obnoxious Bengali people crash at his cottage for a day. I admire that man’s bravery.) The day started at 9am when all 10 families were supposed to meet at our place so we could all head out togehter. Unfortunately, being brown and all, we ended up leaving at 10:30am rather than at 9:30 as we had originally planned. It would have been nice to be on time for once. Gosh, people! Our generation is gonna be different. Right folks?

Anywho, so we arrived at Bob’s Cottage (near Peterborough somewhere) at around 11:45am and right away we ran for the canoes, paddle boats and life jackets. Of course the guys got to it before us and jumped into the canoes before we had a chance. The guys went off, the girls chilled in the sun, the aunties and uncles got ’snacks’ ready.

At one point during this relaxing moment, my older brother and Faisal came in on a dinky little paddle boat saying how one of the canoes sank and that Fahi and Onjon Bhaiya were in the water. The girls laughed. Then my older bro and Faisal decided to do some rescue mission and go back on their paddle boat to save the guys. Silly boys. Little did they know how slow the paddle boat was. Soon enough, the guys came back and claimed that they were soaked from head to toe because of a ‘water fight’. We taunted them about how it was a water fight with the Lake and clearly, the Lake had won. Good times.. =)

Next up: the girls turn to go on the water. Fairy, Lamia and I got a paddle boat. We ‘drifted’ like in Tokyo Drift and made a wicked Gino beat song with beat boxing and everything. We also tried to tan our legs when we were far enough from any wandering eyes. later, the two paddle boats of girls joined forces and we floated together for a while. It was really nice and relaxing.

Lunch time came around. We ate. We drank. Good bbq. Good laughs. Good times. THen we re-applied sunscreen. Then I flew my Kite. It flew SO HIGH! The wind was perfect and steady. It was wonderful. After that, we just sat around on the grass and chilled and watched my kite and some of us tried our hand at kayaking. Not me though, Kayaks look too unstable for my taste.

After digesting our food, we headed for the volleyball net. There, we had our awesome game of volleyball. My team: Fairy, Fahi, Onjon Bhaiya, Nadia, Saima, and in the end — Lamia. We won the first game and lost the second. Unfortunately, we had to leave before finishing the 3rd game, but I’m confident we would have won. =) We’re just that good. Aw ye. I loved it!

Then some family friends of our came over from their cottage trip that weekend and headed out to the lake to do more fishing. It was time to go home. Our Tux crew people left and our fam and the other family friend of ours chilled a little and cleaned up the area a bit before heading out. We thanked Bob’s family for their generosity and welcoming nature. THey were truly really kind for having us there.

All in all, I had an awesome Sunday, Alhumdulillah. I got to do the volleyball thing I wanted, the paddle-boating, the tanning, the chilling, the eating, the relaxing, the unwinding, the laughing, the remeniscing, the afterglowing, the thanking, the planning, the teasing, the picture-taking and everything else on my to-do-list pretty much. Grateful to God for giving me that oppurtunity.
