UofT Pharmacy: Round Two

Assalamualaikum children of all ages, shapes and sizes,

With all the excitement that comes with marriage, I’ve had to force myself to face the harsh reality that is school. Just three weeks ago I had to drag myself out of my comfortable cacoon of my bed and blankies and head out to the ugly institution. Oh the horror…
This year, thankfully, I was granted one course exemption. Which course? None other than Biochemistry:part I and by GOD, I’m so very grateful. Even with this exemption, I have a grand total of 7 courses. The workload is siginificantly greater than that from last year and is clearly more time consuming. I mean, there is less hours spent in class but there are definitely more hours spent on school work outside of school — which is never fun.

On the other hand though, going to school, being in school and studying with my husband is a very different experience. It’s almost fun. (note: I said almost fun. Almost. Not quite.) We usually go to school together, do our thang in class then meet up at the end of the day and come home. We do majority of our studying at schoolwhich is nice cause at home we get to really spend time with each other and the family (given that it’s not too late into the night by the time we reach home).

Another awesome thing about thisyear though is the brand new Pharmacy building that just opened up for us this year. It’s called the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy Building. It’s pretty hot from the outside but from the inside, its not as fabullous. It’s missing a lot of stuff. For instance:

1. There is absolutely no big comfortable place to chill, sit and eat your lunch. We have a lounge — it fits like 30 people at the most. Ridiculous.

2.The elevators stink. They don’t take us all the way down to the basement (where most of our classes are held) and take 20 minutes to come. frustrating. grrr.

3. The quiet study are is not so quiet. Because the architect of the building decided to adopt an open concept in the planning of the building, he/she left the study area as an open are too. Problem: all the noises and talking from the main atrium (foyer/lobby) carry all the way upto the 3rd floor to the ‘quiet’ study are. You can’t really get any work done unless you hit up the Computer lab — which is often really busy.

4. We got these useless pass cards that give us access to special places that are only meant for Pharmacy students. The dumb part of it is that the cards only function from 8am-8pm on weekdays so if you ever want to study late night or on the weekend, your own faculty building is not an option. what the heck is the point of the cards then?! Holy cheese.

Now, I could go on and on about how much our building has dissappointed us all and about how our 11.5 grand fees weren’t put to good use but I won’t. Instead, I’ll mention one good thing: We got ourselves a little prayer room. Although they don’t call it a prayer room but a Meditation Room, it’s still a nice little office space for us to go and worship our Lord when we’re at the building — it’s nice. We’re grateful.

Alhumdulillah. =)

Right now, the stress of school is flowing in my veins and I’m beginning to freak out over assignements, labs, and not to mention the midterms and exams. Make du’a for us not-so-intelligent people. May Allah give me patience and perseverence while I attempt to study at the library (it’s so hard to concentrate sometimes).

In other news,  Ramadan Mubarak everyone.

Just wanted to wish you and your loved ones a very very joyous and beneficial and fruitful (mmm.. fruits) Ramadan! I pray that we can attain everything that we want to and perfect our character, spirit and can learn to worship Allah in the most beautiful ways. I pray that Allah (swt) guides us and keeps us from straying onto the crooked path and brings us closer to Him with every prostration we make on this glorious month of Ramadan. ameen.

Regardless of where we are and what we’re doing now and when we even started fasting, I want to wish you a blessed Ramadan. =)
